There's a joke in my writers group surrounding unhappy endings in books or films. Several of our members can't stand it if a story ends without resolution, or in a sad and/or depressing way. As we like to say, their stories have to have "Rainbows and Unicorns". I am one of the few who actually enjoys melancholy storylines (as long as they're done well) and thereby, I often have to give a "no rainbows and unicorns" disclaimer when recommending books or films.
You can understand why this made me giggle.

Haha! This is totally relevant to me today because Brett and I just watched "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" last night. Have you seen it? I'm curious what you would think of it.
ReplyDeleteI have seen it. It was good, but not great in my opinion. I didn't mind the ending at all, but I found it kind of boring overall. I think because I went into it expecting more of a comedy and it turned out to be more serious than I was prepared for. I much preferred "Safety Not Guaranteed". Quirky indie films are my favorite.
DeleteI'm glad to hear you say that, I declared hatred for the movie about half way through but Brett made me watch until the end. I think I had a problem with it being boring too, but there were other things I didn't like about it. Anyway, for me I love books that are melancholy and even a little depressing, but I can't get into movies that are the same way. I love indie films too, especially ones that don't have a solid conclusion, I like the idea that life just goes on, with an uplifting message ;)
